Christine Cahalin Bowen Technique

Christine Cahalin
Bowen Technique Practitioner in Oakhill, Stoke-On-Trent

The Bowen Technique is a hands-on, gentle, relaxing and remedial therapy. Most of the work can be performed through light clothing, or directly onto the skin - the choice is yours.
A treatment session usually involves most of the body, as well as the particular area causing the pain or concern.
There is no manipulation or forceful adjustment as the work is mainly done over muscles, tendons, ligaments and the underlying connective tissue (fascia). During a treatment session the client usually remains extremely relaxed, and often falls to sleep.
Conditions that have responded to Bowen include migraine, neuralgia, jaw pain, neck problems, whiplash, frozen shoulder, asthma, back pain, hip pain, knee injuries, shin-splints, bladder problems, problems of the reproductive system, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis (foot pain), tennis elbow, carpal tunnel pain, repetetive strain injury, colic in babies, growing pains in children, bed-wetting in children and many more.....
I am also qualified to use Fascia Bowen, which works on the connective tissue beneath the skin and is extremely gentle.
I am also qualified in scar tissue release work (MSTRT)

Background & Bowen Technique Qualifications

I originally trained as a General Nurse, Sick Children's Nurse and a Midwife.
Later I went into teaching and lecturing, followed by work as a Nurse Consultant to the legal profession.
I then found my way into Complementary Therapies where I discovered The Bowen Technique.
I trained with the European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS) and I am a Member of the Bowen Therapists Professional Association (MBTPA).
I am also registered with the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council).

As a member of these professional bodies I am required to adhere to a strict code of conduct and practice, and to complete regular educational activities to keep myself up to date with current professional developments.

My Specialisms

I am qualified in a number of Complementary Therapies.
In addition to Bowen, another favourite therapy I offer is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique ) or "Tapping".
This therapy addresses emotional upsets of any kind, including fears and phobias, childhood issues, recent traumas, and many other stressful life events.
Working together we often uncover blocks and limiting beliefs that have prevented people from moving forward in life, and being at their best, or have caused them to self sabotage.
It is a simple technique but can have profound and lasting beneficial effects.
I also provide a therapy to help relieve and release scar tissue. Scars are always an invasion of the body, whether through planned surgery or through accident. They can often hold emotional issues as well as physical discomfort, and the scar work can often help to provide much physical and emotional release.

Approach to Bowen Technique & How I Work

I work from my dedicated treatment room where I aim to create a welcoming, nurturing, calm & healing environment.
My approach is to listen carefully, respond appropriately, giving time for the client to explain their issues of concern.

I aim to treat clients punctually and hardly ever keep a client waiting for treatment.
I usually spend time at the beginning of a session talking to my client to ascertain their condition, past medical history, treatment and medication to date. It is also important to find out what my client is hoping to gain from the session and together, to try to set realistic goals for healing, both physically and emotionally.

A session usually takes an hour, sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little less, depending on the condition and circumstances.
Every session is tailored to the needs and aspirations of each individual client.

"For many years I had been suffering with a progressively stiff back. I saw my on several occasions GP but sadly apart from painkillers there seemed little could be done: so I basically accepted there was no solution. Then one wonderful day Chris Cahalin applied the Bowen technique and a couple of days later I realised I hadn't had a stiff back since. That was 5 years ago, and my back is still fine after only one treatment!
I was a sceptic, but obviously not any more.
So rather than doubt a technique's capabilities, why not give it a try, it could very well work for you, because it did for me!"

"Bowen Therapy and the Therapist

I have been bothered by sporadic but chronic pain in my shoulders, neck and sacroiliac for many years. The problem is no doubt exacerbated by my hobby of cycling, as I spend a lot time in that peculiar shoulders-forward-and-down, head-up-and-back posture of road cyclists. I have found that while sports massage can often provide quick, short-term relief, it can be fairly painful and the relief does not always last very long. On the other hand, Bowen therapy, as delivered by the hands of Christine Cahalin, is absolutely painless. It sometimes takes one or two days for the effects of the treatment to be felt ‒ as is often the case with massage as well ‒ but the treatment is always effective and always makes the pain go away. Equally important, the relief is long-lasting. For example, my sacroiliac has not bothered me at all since it was treated over a year ago, which is a very welcome change. And I suspect that the treatments to my shoulders and neck would last longer than three or four months if I had the sense to buy a flat-bar bike and sit upright in the saddle, but that takes us into the realm of old dogs and new tricks.

An additional word must be said about the therapist herself. I have had Bowen treatment from another practitioner and did not find the effects of the treatment to be as complete or as long-lasting as the treatments I have received from Christine. Yes, my own condition at the time of the various treatments could be a factor in their efficacy. However, I think that the main factor is Christine: she has what I can only describe as ‘healing hands’ which, combined with the care she gives and the time she takes to administer it, provide a truly healing, restorative treatment.

"I've been seeing Chris every week now for over a year for Bowen therapy and massage. I can't ever say I've committed to seeing a therapist this often, but Chris isn't just a therapist she's a caring, kind and supportive therapist who cares for all her clients with such love and care. Her treatment room is very relaxing and I always feel safe and reassured when I'm there with Chris. She listens to me and instantly I feel better. I honestly don't think I'd be here today writing this review if it wasn't for Chris. She's saved my life and after each session I feel so much better, more relaxed and in less pain. She always does what she feels is the right treatment for me and gives me some great advice that I can take home and practice. Chris really is simply amazing!!"
