My name is Amy Paddock-Howell, and I am a qualified counsellor offering online therapy through my service ‘Balance Therapy'.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and therefore beholden to its ethical framework
I am fully insured to practice as a counsellor, and I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
Balance Therapy offers two types of therapy: person centred counselling and specialist supportive clinical management for eating disorders.
What is Person-Centred Counselling?
Person-centred counselling has been developed with the ethos that people are always trying their best to grow and develop. I trust the person to find their own way and gently encourage you to lead the session and explore what you need to. This could be looking at reconnecting with uncomfortable emotions, building resilience or helping you get a better understanding of who you are and why.
I will always provide a safe, warm, empathic, honest and non-judgemental space to explore what you need.
If you are needing support navigating difficult life events, like bereavement, a trauma or relationship breakdown then person-centred counselling might be right for you. It can also help those suffering from mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and personality disorders.
What is Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM)?
SSCM is a recommended treatment for eating disorders. I work by helping people manage their physical risk alongside therapy where people are given the space to talk and process their issues. I can help people understand their eating disorder and achieve their goals in a collaborative, gentle and understanding way.
I offer nutritional support by helping clients understand how to keep themselves nourished to alleviate the physical implications of their disorder. It also emphasises the importance of a positive and healthy relationship with food.
Starting treatment for an eating disorder can be a daunting; SSCM takes a compassionate approach regardless of your aims for support whether it is recovery, early intervention or trying to live in a healthier way. I support all types of eating disorders and difficulties with an appreciation that a diagnosis does not always reflect someone's struggles (and that is why it is not required).
SSCM, although acknowledging the importance of physical and nutritional consequences, does not focus solely on these. After working in eating disorders for nearly a decade, I fully appreciate the importance of seeing people as a whole and helping them navigate their lives alongside their eating difficulties.
Whether seeking out counselling or eating disorder support, choosing a therapist/therapy can be a confusing. Feel free to contact me for a chat about how I can help you.
