Charlie Rossington
Counsellor in London

A therapy service delivered by a professional who specialises in epilepsy management as the main focus. This non-medical bespoke therapy service is designed for those who are directly affected by epilepsy. I have experience working as a Psychological Well Being Practitioner and have qualified on the BPS (British Psychological Society) and BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) accredited courses in 2024. As well as my experience in the psychological field I have had many shared battles of living with epilepsy, being diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy in 2015 and battling first-hand with the difficulties of medication, tiredness, memory and mental health issues that come with the diagnosis.

Since 2015, I have endured a lot of tough times having many tonic-clonic seizures, being on the incorrect medication for years but I have also achieved a lot despite all of this. I personally believe that epilepsy doesn't have to be a hindrance and it can be the making of who we are. I hope through this service, to empower you to see what can be done to improve yourself, in as many ways as possible in an incremental fashion looking at common difficulties such as employment, support networks, medication and day to day life.

My Specialisms

I have experience dealing with clients struggling with various long term health conditions, but with my own difficulties involving epilepsy i have developed a rapport with many clients who share similar struggles. This rapport has helped me to assist individuals in managing what they can in the struggles that exist in living with epilepsy.

I actively encourage goal setting and improving incrementally and gradually the things we can control, in order to make small strides to improve whilst accepting the elements of life with epilepsy that we cannot control. I firmly believe this can be done at any age, in any situation and with whatever difficulties that are brought about by epilepsy.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

My client experience has taken many forms, one to one, group format, virtual and telephone. Whilst delivering therapy for the NHS since February 2022, I have gained qualifications in both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Counselling. CBT focusses mostly on the present and future whereas counselling looks back at past events that have formed elements of who we are. These sessions will integrate elements of both CBT and Counselling that are tailored towards what is most necessary to your needs.

As there are over multiple types of epilepsy and between 30 and 40 types of seizures, many forms of medications and many side effects to the condition, we therefore all handle epilepsy differently. I will adapt each session to your individual needs and focus on what can be done to improve mood, anxiety, sleep, routine and lifestyle.

I also offer group sessions, whereby people can communicate openly about their management of their epilepsy and see similarities with other people. Often it is not obvious if people have epilepsy, yet the consequences on mental health can be very difficult in day to day life, so having a group with commonalities can be very beneficial.

My sessions are held remotely so that I can cover the whole of the UK. These sessions can be held via video or telephone.
