Lena Fenton Counselling

Lena Fenton
Counsellor in Rotherham

Lena's dedication to helping others began over 30 years ago when she opened her private practice in London. Her early work with women who had experienced sexual abuse instilled a deep compassion for the complexities of human suffering. This led her to work with vulnerable women in prison, those facing homelessness, and survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Driven by a desire to expand her skills and make a greater impact, Lena pursued training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and life coaching. Recognizing the profound influence of relationships on individual well-being, she further specialized in couples counselling and psychosexual therapy at the Tavistock Relationships Centre.

Lena's commitment to ongoing learning is evident in her continued professional development, including certifications in Mentalization Based Therapy and Divorce and Separation Brief Therapy. Currently, she is deepening her understanding of neurodiversity and its impact on couple dynamics, pursuing a master's degree in Autism.

My Specialisms

I specialise in working with couples who are experiencing intimacy issues. I have also worked extensively with adults who have experienced Childhood Sexual Abuse and individuals who have experienced traumas at any time in their lives.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

When people come to me for relationship therapy and sex therapy, they are often in crisis. I work with each individual and couple to develop strategies for overcoming the issues that have become the legacy of past traumas. I work with people who are experiencing trouble connecting as a couple both emotionally and sexually. For some this could mean rediscovering a love for each other and reawakening desire, for others it can mean healing and finding a mutual path after infidelity.

I work with a range of issues and approach each with a completely non-judgmental attitude and a compassionate approach. I invite each client to feel secure and safe enough to discuss very personal and painful subjects.

I am also interested in the area of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its impact on couples' relationships and I have worked extensively with survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

My experience as a therapist and of working with individuals and couples has taught me that every human being is capable of extraordinary things, each individual is capable of reaching inside to find that place from where our most noble deeds and thoughts arise. I believe that change is always possible and that counselling can enable people to shape their future in the way that they want to.
