I am a fully qualified Integrative counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Since completing my initial counselling training in 2007 I have been actively committed to continuous professional development.
I am also an EMDR Practitioner accredited by EMDR Europe and EMDR Association UK and Ireland. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing. EMDR is a form psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences. The EMDR procedure was originally developed by a clinical psychologist named Francine Shapiro and used in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. EMDR has been increasingly used over the years to treat e.g. grief, phobias, test and performance anxiety, recovery from sexual abuse, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, panic, anger, pain, jealousy, sexual dysfunction, low self esteem and lack of confidence. As everybody is different in their needs and their approach to life, an integrative theraputic approach enables me to work with a variety of issues, where the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is central to the theraputic process. I provide all of my clients with a warm, confidential and non-judgmental space, always allowing the client to guide me in providing the right kind of support. Some clients may find it helpful to explore their past, especially their childhood experience. I integrate my theoretical knowledge and tailor each session to match each clients unique needs.
My experience has shown me that although therapy cannot get rid of a painful past, it can help people to develop a greater depth of understanding and self acceptance. When an individual gains acceptance of themselves, self esteem and confidence will grow and life changes occur.
I offer open ended and short term counselling depending on the clients individual needs.
