Angela enjoys helping people reduce and eliminate their pain that is caused by postural compensations. She has an excellent understanding of how human structure can produce aches, pains and acute injury. In a session with her she will explain what she sees in how you are stand and move. Her sessions are then tailored to change this, with every session aiming to take further strain off your structure.
ATSI is a form of Structural Integration working with unique myofascial lines developed by Tom Myers called Anatomy Trains. These lines map connections through the whole body from foot to head, front to back and superficial to deep. Imbalances add strain to the body's structure and can be felt as aches which often manifest over time into acute pain.
ATSI sessions look at the whole body and aim to balance the Anatomy Trains lines using hands on precise anatomical techniques. The techniques release the connective tissue (fascia) to re-form tissue health, resolve complex postural and movement patterns and align the whole body. The changes provoke ease of movement, greater balance and enhanced physical performance.
Common complaints she helps with are:
Back pain. Her aim is to first create freedom above and below the pelvis to allow the back to move freely. Many people are suffering due to excess compression through their spine. By creating length and balance, for many, most symptoms will go away.
Scoliosis & leg length differences. Many adults with scoliosis develop symptoms when they are older. Through patterns that body holds, the pelvis can become non-horizontal and give the appearance of a leg length difference and force a scoliosis of the spine. When the legs become balanced again and the structures through the pelvis move evenly, for many a leg length difference and scoliosis will go away. Structural Integration is a wonderful solution for bringing balance back to the core.
Knee & hip pain. Knees are easily put under strain from an imbalance between the foot, lower leg, thigh and pelvis. When this is addressed, often knee pain goes away.
Shoulder and neck pain. Shoulders and arms should drape off our bodies with ease. Lack of space or tension in the adjoining structures can cause compression in the joint capsule. Lifting the arms becomes increasing difficult and in some cases of nerve compression, painful. Addressing the balance of the joint(s) and forces through the ribcage eliminates the compression freeing the shoulders and arms to move more easily.
Poor posture. Existing under the daily forces of gravity is hard work. Over time, through no fault of our own, maintaining good posture becomes difficult. Strength training, stretching and movement all help but there are times when we need more. We need understanding of what is happening and the knowledge to correct it. Angela will help you understand why good posture has become challenging and through a series of sessions, help find the length, balance and ease of movement you desire.
Re-occurring injury. Repetitive injury in the same location can often be because that area is possibly weak or moving more than it should. Often we don't look at where the pain isn't. When we do we can find that adjacent structures may not be moving and therefore the injury site is not correctly supported and allowed to heal. Angela can assess this and help promote balance supporting the injury allowing it to heal.
