My background is somewhat varied! Having been interested in physio and occupational therapy in my teens I took a rather lengthy detour through chemistry, braille transcription and the legal profession before landing on what has been the most rewarding career path I could imagine. Making people's lives just that bit better. Some might say it's all a bit random but that variety has given me a breadth of understanding and experience that helps me help many different clients - a scientific and legal mind, knowledge and experience of disability, gender identity issues and the stressors of working in a corporate environment.
I trained in Swedish Massage in 2001 but since then have added the following qualifications:
• Diploma in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage (Level 5)
• Diploma in Pregnancy, Labour and Post Partum Massage
• Diploma in Myofascial Release Techniques
• Diploma in Oncology Massage (with Susan Findlay)
I specialise in 3 main areas:
• Helping people who are dealing with persistent or recurrent musculoskeletal pain, helping ease pain and improve movement so you can get on with your life.
• Working with pregnant clients, supporting you as your pregnancy develops and helping ease those common pregnancy discomforts, reduce stress and anxiety and improve your sleep.
• Supporting people going through cancer treatment, helping make your life just that little bit better by easing pain and discomfort, helping you relax and get a better night's sleep or simply giving you some time out from it all.
I work with clients on a very individual basis - no two people are the same even if they have very similar issues.
I ask a lot of questions, which some people find surprising. This is vital because it helps me fully understand the issues you are dealing with, how it affects you and what is most important to you in terms of treatment outcome. This allows me to tailor my treatment and advice to best suit you.
I use a combination of deep tissue massage, soft tissue techniques and myofascial release along with pain education and advice on stretching, rehabilitation exercises and training you can do at home and have found that this combined approach has produced some profound results for my clients.
Finally, I strongly believe that treatments do not need to leave you battered and bruised in order to be effective, so I work with more thought than force, always working with your body, your preferences and within your comfort threshold.
