Deborah Buxton
Psychotherapist in Wallsend

I am a psychotherapist and mental health professional with over 18 years working with many people in therapy in a variety of settings and with many different mental and physical health problems. Being holistic in approach means as well as offering talking therapy we also focus on you as a whole person, mind, body and soul. With a deep understanding of how connected the mind and body are.
Before setting up my practise I worked in school settings with young people and adults. This consisted of working with people suffering anxiety, Emetophobia (fear of sickness), OCD, panic, depression, phobias, self-harm and overthinking amongst many other problems. I used primarily Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches. Before that, I worked in a drug and alcohol addiction setting, supporting others through addictions.
I have been working privately for a few years now and setting up my practise has supported my passion of creating a space for clients to feel safe, secure and relaxed. A place I could make comforting and decorate with clients in mind. Showing my dedication of keeping clients at the forefront and the importance of the therapist and client relationship.
I offer a holistic approach to wellbeing in the North East, Newcastle, Wallsend area in a quiet and peaceful setting with a fresh and caring space.
Group Mindfulness Sessions
I also offer group sessions in Mindfulness. I run regular group sessions, once a week where we can get together and explore mindfulness practise. It is a lovely, relaxed, warm, welcoming group with welcome tea and coffee followed by positivity and mindfulness practise. You will learn how to apply this amazing tool to your difficulties, find some relaxation and have time for you and to meet and connect to lovely people. Creating a different way of responding and handling challenges in life. Contact me if you are interested in group Mindfulness and I can add you on to the list and provide details.

Background & Psychotherapy Qualifications

Talk therapy and therapy treatments are unique to you focusing on positive, forward solutions. Your mind is not separate to everything else, it is intrinsically connected to your body, hence I work with mind, body and soul. Research clearly shows that there is a clear link between your brain and your body. This is why my methods keep this in mind. I listen and together we devise a plan and a way forward to reach your desired outcome. Types of psychotherapy and psychology methods used range from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques) and Mindfulness, for example, we work with the thoughts and thought patterns you may be having and your body through breath work and focussed attention to help with managing depression and managing anxiety as well as coping with anxiety and creating mental wellness. Often our challenges are due to a negative, self-destructing thought cycle we have fell into and it is about recognizing this and breaking the patterns in order to heal.
Offering virtual therapy sessions, online therapy and remote counselling we will work with each other to plan, implement and review your recovery journey in which you will be fully supported by myself. I review our work regularly so that we know we are heading in the right direction. I will also give you homework each week for you to be working on. Our psychological sessions are a great way to explore issues but it is also what happens outside of these sessions that will make a difference. Therefore I make sure that you have work to concentrate on in order to continue to grow, learn and get better. I work to understand you as a person. A natural empath means I can understand what it is like for you and how desperate you feel sometimes, just to get your life back. How unfair it all seems and how you just want to be happy. I am there for it all and will show up for you every session we have together in the healing process.
Patient confidentially is key to therapy outcomes so that you feel safe to open up and talk about your emotional disorders.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

To walk alongside individuals as they learn to heal and grow
Here, it's safe to put the armour down. Underneath our defences lies the emotional safety, connection, and authenticity we crave. I offer one to one sessions, face to face and online or virtual therapy talk as well.
One to one sessions - in person or virtual online
Psychotherapy sessions where you can talk about your challenges and difficulties and we can work together to overcome them.
Group Mindfulness Sessions
I also offer group sessions in Mindfulness. I run regular group sessions, once a week where we can get together and explore mindfulness practise. The first stage would be for you to book a free 10 minute consultation with me. You can do this by going to the contact page and getting my details and sending me a text or giving me a phone call. You can also email me for this or fill in the contact form. During this 10 minutes we can have a confidential chat about what it is you need support on. You can share with me your challenges and ask any questions. I will also ask a few questions just to make sure we can work together. I am friendly and open and we do not have to talk about anything you don't want to. This is your time.
After this, I will see if you are wanting to book in for sessions to begin. If so, I will send you across a thorough questionnaire so that our first session can be used to the full.
During our first session, you will be welcomed into a caring environment where we can begin to break down your struggles and we can see the best way forward for support.
