Hugo Metcalfe
Psychotherapist in Trowbridge

My name is Hugo, and I am a Psychotherapist with many years experience in the field of mental health, working in both NHS clinical settings and the private sector. I have had the privilege of supporting individuals facing a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma, relationship difficulties, workplace stress, loss and more. My passion lies in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where you can explore your experiences and work toward meaningful change.

I have received training in multiple therapeutic modalities and take an integrative approach to therapy. This means I tailor my work to your unique needs, goals, and current challenges, drawing on different techniques and frameworks to support you in the most effective way possible. I believe therapy is a powerful tool not only for healing but also for self-development and personal transformation. I see my own learning as a continuous journey—both in my ongoing psychotherapy training and in deepening my understanding of the many ways people experience and navigate mental health struggles.

Beyond my private practice, I also work as a specialist mental health trainer and keynote speaker, delivering talks and workshops to organizations worldwide. My work extends beyond the therapy room—I am also a mountain guide and forest bathing facilitator, helping individuals connect with the therapeutic power of nature and the outdoors as part of their healing journey.

My Specialisms

A Safe and Supportive Space for Healing and Growth

Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes we carry struggles that feel too heavy to bear alone. If you're facing anxiety, depression, stress, or challenges in your relationships or workplace, know that you don't have to navigate this alone. Whether you are processing trauma, living with loss, struggling with low mood or self-esteem, or finding it difficult to adjust to life's transitions, I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space to explore and heal.

With extensive experience in both NHS clinical settings and the private sector, I have supported individuals facing a wide range of psychological challenges. I have worked with young people and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, disordered eating, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, and complex trauma. I have also worked extensively with neurodivergent individuals, and I am committed to supporting those with ADHD, autism, and other forms of neurodiversity in ways that honour their unique strengths and experiences.

I am a trauma-informed, kink-aware, and LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist, dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive space for everyone. I recognize the profound impact of early experiences, identity, and systemic oppression on mental health, and I tailor my approach to each individual's needs. My goal is to help you uncover your resilience, regain confidence, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

I see therapy as a collaborative and supportive conversation—a space where you can explore your experiences, gain deeper self-understanding, and navigate life's complexities with greater clarity. Therapy is not about being "fixed" but about empowering you to create meaningful change in a way that feels right for you.

My approach is integrative and client-focused, meaning I tailor each session to your individual needs. Drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities, I offer the tools and perspectives that best support you in the moment. Therapy should feel safe, non-judgmental, and confidential—an opportunity to explore challenges, develop coping strategies, and find new ways of thinking and being. While I may offer reflections, prompts, or alternative perspectives, this journey is ultimately led by you and guided by what feels most helpful for your personal growth.

I offer both ongoing therapy and 'Single-Session' Therapy, allowing flexibility depending on what you need. You are in control of your therapeutic journey—whether that means taking the time for deep, long-term work or focusing on a specific challenge in the short term.

Practicalities
- I currently offer online therapy sessions via Zoom or Teams during the week, between 08:00 - 20:00, so we can find a time that suits your schedule.

- At the start of our work together, we will discuss and agree on your goals, regularly assessing progress and identifying any obstacles so that therapy remains effective and aligned with your needs.
