My journey into counselling and psychotherapy has been both personal and professional.
Before training as a therapist, I spent many years exploring human behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and what it truly means to live a fulfilling life. My own experiences in therapy played a vital role in shaping who I am today - not only as a person, but as a practitioner. That journey sparked a deep interest in emotional healing and personal growth, and ultimately led me to retrain professionally so I could support others on their own paths.
I hold a professional qualification in Humanistic Counselling, and my training includes a broad range of therapeutic approaches such as:
Gestalt Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychosynthesis
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Person-Centred Therapy
This integrative background allows me to adapt the way I work to suit each client as an individual - because no one-size-fits-all when it comes to emotional support.
In addition to my qualifications, I bring with me real-life experience and a deep understanding of the complexities people face. I regularly engage in professional development and clinical supervision, ensuring my work is ethical, up-to-date, and grounded in best practice.
At the heart of what I do is a commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly - and begin to reconnect with your sense of self.
"Hello, I'm Richard Gosling, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. My specialisms focus on supporting individuals facing emotional and psychological challenges. The key areas I work with include:"
Depression - "When life feels heavy and motivation is hard to find, I provide a supportive space to explore what's going on and work towards rediscovering a sense of purpose and balance."
Anxiety - "If worry and overthinking are affecting your daily life, I can help you understand your triggers and develop tools to manage your anxiety more effectively."
Emotional Difficulties - "Sometimes it's hard to make sense of how we feel. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can begin to explore your emotions openly."
Crisis and Trauma - "Life can throw unexpected and painful events our way. I use a trauma-informed approach to help you process your experiences and begin the journey towards healing."
"My approach integrates a range of therapeutic models, including Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Humanistic counselling. This allows me to tailor the work to suit your individual needs."
"Whatever you're facing, I'm here to walk alongside you - offering understanding, guidance, and support as you move towards greater self-awareness and emotional wellbeing."
"For me, therapy is about creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted - just as you are."
I work from a person-centred foundation, which means I believe in the power of the individual to grow and change when given the right conditions. I won't offer quick fixes or advice from a distance - instead, I'll be alongside you, helping you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
I also integrate a range of other therapeutic approaches to suit your needs, including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - helping you identify and shift negative patterns of thought and behaviour.
Gestalt Therapy - focusing on the here and now, bringing awareness to how you experience things in the present moment.
Psychodynamic Therapy - exploring how past experiences may be influencing your current emotional world.
Psychosynthesis - connecting your emotional healing with a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.
Humanistic Counselling - always respecting your individuality and inner resources.
"I see therapy as a collaborative journey - you're the expert in your life, and I bring a toolkit of approaches that we can use together to support your growth and self-understanding."
Sessions are held in a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment - whether in-person or online - and always at a pace that feels right for you.
"My role is not to ‘fix' you, but to support you in making sense of what you're experiencing, so that you can move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and self-compassion."
