Tara Bucknall
Psychotherapist in Chatham

Hi, I am an experienced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with 13 years of experience, providing private and confidential one-to-one therapy sessions in-person and online.

Psychotherapy offers you a unique opportunity to talk about and resolve what is holding you back from living your most fulfilling life. I can help you explore your thoughts and feelings in complete privacy. I provide a safe space in which I will support you to transform your life, making changes to your mood, wellbeing and relationships.

You may be seeking a solution to a particular problem. You may be hoping for relief from distressing thoughts, memories or symptoms. You may be wanting to understand yourself better, or to change unhelpful patterns in your life.

You may just want to talk to someone.

Meeting with me provides so much more than just learning strategies and techniques to manage challenges, or just having someone listen to you. I am trained and skilled in looking for the 'why' or root cause of your concerns, which we can explore and discover together. This is much more effective in the long-term, because, while coping strategies can be a helpful sticking plaster for symptoms, I can help you work through what is actually causing your difficulties to present in the first place. This can free you from unhelpful patterns or difficulties repeating in the future.

I bring a wealth of experience from working in a diverse range of NHS mental health services for 10 years, prior to working privately and managing my own psychotherapy service. I am registered and accredited by the UKCP and CPJA as a full clinical member, and follow their ethics and guidelines. I am also registered with a number of private insurers.

If this sounds like what you are looking for, please get in touch! I'd be very happy to speak with you over the phone or by email about how I may be able to help.

My Specialisms

Have you asked yourself…

Why don't my relationships work?
Why do I never feel good enough?
Why can't I let go and move on?
Why do I feel stuck?
How can I change my life for the better?

I can help you explore the answers to those, and similar questions, by exploring and processing the underlying reasons for those difficulties.

I am experienced in working with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, abuse, stress, grief, and relationship issues, among many other areas. Every person I see is unique, with their own set of circumstances, so the list could be endless, so please get in touch, and I'd be happy to help.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

I believe that our past experiences shape the way that we think and feel about ourselves and others. If you had some challenging early experiences, these may be contributing to your current difficulties, which can be worked through in therapy. I will support you to process and resolve your issues for long-term results and positive changes that you can maintain.

My aim is not only to alleviate your most obvious symptoms but to help you lead a happier and more fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy begins with an initial consultation, usually conducted over one or two 50 minute sessions, in which we can explore how I may be able to help you at this time.

The aim of the consultation is to give us an opportunity to explore what you want to gain from therapy and ask any questions you may have. I will explain how I work and outline what you can expect from psychotherapy, including recommendations for which support may be most helpful to you. There is no obligation to commit to further sessions unless you would like to.

If, at the end of the consultation, we decide to continue to work together, we will agree a time and day to meet for weekly or twice-weekly sessions. The sessions take place at the same time and day each week, providing a dedicated space for us to work together on helping you to achieve your goals and work through your difficulties.
