Thaddeus Hickman
Psychotherapist in Lewes

I'm an experienced psychotherapist working with individuals struggling with a range of issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, relationships, and men's issues. You may feel that you are struggling with these issues alone and that you can't talk to your partner, friends or family. You might worry that these issues keep repeating themselves and that you will always feel stuck. I work with clients to explore their current emotional concerns to understand underlying and often unseen issues. It is this process that opens up positive change.

Background & Psychotherapy Qualifications

My training includes a Masters (in Advanced Clinical Practice) and also various therapeutic schools or modalities (this is called 'integrative). This enables me to tailor the therapy to the specific needs of each client. My training base is 'humanistic' which means that the needs and humanity of each client are at the core of the therapy and that I aim to help the client understand and connect with their internal, often under-used resources.

I'm trained in 'psychodynamic' counselling and psychotherapy which believes that the past has often had significant influence on how you live your life today. This approach can provide valuable self-knowledge, enabling you to better understand yourself and adapt to events in the present and the future.

I also have an interest and background in 'narrative'. Clients often feel, when we look at 'self-narrative' together, that they are seeing it for the first time. And yet, it becomes clear that it was often created a long time ago, perhaps in childhood. This revealing process can provide an understanding of why you behave the way you do, but also, it can enable you to connect with who you are now.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

I see therapy as offering a space to step aside from your everyday life - a confidential and judgement-free space - where we approach your concerns with curiosity and compassion. By exploring the feelings and experiences you find difficult, we will uncover, process and come to understand what might be holding you back.

If you connect with what you've read here then contact me to book a free 30 minute consultation where we'll discuss what you want to get out of therapy, I can answer any questions you may have and you'll get a sense if working with me feels right.
