Getting people moving with ease through good alignment is Madeleine's passion and speciality. When asked the question what Structural Integration or Rolfing is - she says ' Altering the guys ropes of the body by working specific myofascial areas around the body, to provide space for bones to fall back into their rightful places, allowing muscles to then work in a balanced fashion across joints'. That seems complicated to most, but it really is as simple as sculpting the body back into an upright posture. This takes a series of treatments and commitment on the part of the client, as work needs to be done from the feet up to horizontalize the knees and hips, and then re-establish a core and lumbar presence and positioning. Head and neck positioning can then be addressed once the chest and shoulders have regained their rightful place.
'All those people out there suffering from bad backs and necks, and loosing the ability to walk and move with ease - have a totally realistic chance of change through Structural Integration and yoga therapy. Coaching in a few yoga postures and dynamic movements help people grow into their changes. Quality of life is really our last 30 years with good movement and balance, and free from pain. Yoga practitioners and sports people love it, because they immediately feel the release provided and consequent improvement in performance.'
Madeleine's approach to therapy is to establish a person's movement ability and postural alignment through static and dynamic assessments, and then to arrange a series of treatments that works progressively through the body. Actual injury areas may require their own session; but the over all goal is ease and pain free, fluid movement. At each session a few dynamic movements and stretches will be set as homework, as flexibility and strength are the 2 requirements for co-ordinated movement.
Conditions helped through Structural Integration and Yoga Therapy; walking difficulties, breathing issues, low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, plantar fascitis, flat feet, knee pain, uneven hips, dowagers hump, rounded shoulders, tension headaches, carpal tunnel and tendonitis around the wrist.
