The Harvest Moon tonight casts her light on a world of division and exile, a world where the harvest of this year is lean. At this pivotal moment in our human story, the Sun and the Moon oppose each other, and the Moon meets Chiron in the sign of the Ram.

The archetype of Aries is a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit. When she opposes a Sun in Libra, this is a celestial call to muster the courage to do what is morally, ethically, legally, right. The Moon makes a close conjunction to Chiron in Retrograde, as the pain and the alienation that is so evident in our world now is illuminated. Mars is still Retrograde in hot-headed Aries, and the energy of that heat is amplified, in our own lives, and most chillingly, in last night’s chest banging, insult-flinging “debate” between two warring old men.

Where in our own, imperfect, and messy lives, are we hot-headed and puerile? What have we garnered, what have we harvested, since the New Moon in Aries conjunct Chiron on March 24^th?  For so many of us at the end of this epoch, as the death rattle of the old order shatters our peace and disrupts the surety of our lives, we may meet that wounded place within ourselves; that place that we believed we had healed; that issue or relationship that we thought we had resolved. This Full Moon may bring some sense of clarity, a completion, or illuminate that which still bleeds or festers within us.

The sky story tells of something much bigger, much more profound than the current pandemic. Saturn is about confinement, constriction, limitation. Pluto ruthlessly destroys what no longer serves our collective and personal evolution. Over the coming months, the pressure will increase. Mars and Chiron are both in Retrograde, their energy amplified by this apparent movement backwards in the skies. This Full Moon conjoins Chiron, the Wounded Healer, symbolising the grief and suffering so many are feeling now as economies collapse; as we face environmental destruction, as our leaders flounder, as our personal and collective shadow stretches longer. Aries is associated with courage and valour, with autonomy and individuality. With “me” rather than “we”. This Full Moon invites us to be brave, to say YES to our imperfect, messy lives, to draw on our own courage and resilience to heal those things that still feel unhealed. As the light of the Full Harvest Moon washes over us tonight, may we be infused with bravery, but also caution this week as Mars squares Saturn and frayed tempers can spark tinder dry resentments. Take a moment, pause, breathe out, before responding or reacting. May we draw deeply on our innate courage to visit those secret vulnerable places in our heart. May we dare to weep away the pretences. May we have the strength to risk tenderness.
