The Luminaries—Lunar Eclipse —July 4th

This weekend the Sun and the Moon dance a pas-de-deux, awakening our intentions, quickening our focus, eclipsing outworn beliefs, non-essentials.

 

 

The symbolism of astrology describes universal energy that is settling into the collective consciousness as we acknowledge our Interdependence, our interconnectedness.

On July 4th or July 5th, depending on where you live, the Sun (13 ° Cancer) Vesta (Goddess of the flame, of the hearth) and Mercury Retrograde (what needs to be addressed, revisited, revised, redressed) are in opposition to the Moon (13 ° Capricorn). Both luminaries square Chiron, reflecting the pain and wounding of the collective, the struggle for autonomy, the loss of identity that lies at the root of America’s Independence from a restrictive British rule. There is a signature of the past contained in this Eclipse, amplified by the Pluto/ Jupiter/Eris conjunction that carries potential for transformative cultural and political turning points.

 

Cancer signifies home, safety, family, nourishment and belonging; Capricorn relates to authority, structure, responsibility, and accountability. This Eclipse opposes the Sun of the American birth chart, conjoins Eris (strife and discord) and squares Saturn (the old order). It also opposes Mercury in the birth chart of the American President. It conjoins the Sun of the UK birth chart, a powerful symbol of what is to be eclipsed in the months to come.

 

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun in the eclipse chart is “A Very Old Man Facing A Vast Dark Space to The Northeast” and for the Moon, “An Ancient Bas-Relief Carved In Granite Remains A Witness To A Long-Forgotten Culture.” As we meditate and reflect on these symbols and allow our feelings to surface in the moonlight tonight, may we set an intention for Healing the divisions that create so much pain and destruction in this world. May we set an intention to walk lightly on our home planet. To take only what we need, to pare down, to re-use, re-cycle.

 

This lunation speaks of deep Healing and wholeness. Marion Woodman writes, "the Healing of ourselves as healers has to take place first. Bringing ourselves to wholeness, we become more sensitive to other people. In the change of consciousness that happens within us, we bring about change of consciousness in those around us and in the planet itself."

 

As our Earthly home moves between the Sun and the Moon this weekend, we may sense that we are at a collective time of inevitable ending, a fin de siècle. Lunar Eclipses draw us into the instinctual realm, into the sepia coloured shadows and nuances that may colour endings, but also illuminate new beginnings. This eclipse will be followed by the final eclipse of 2020 on November 30th.

As we honour our interconnectedness with all living things, may we light a candle for our Earth Home. May we pray for Healing and wholeness. May we be Excellent to one another.
